'Sound Boundary (Let me Heal)'

Updated: Nov 26

Each month, when I share writing and audio, the themes, words, rhythms and sentiments I express colour my experience of the weeks that follow. It's in that light that I browse through my songs, listening to those that attract me and pulling out potentials for my next offering.

This month I pulled out 'Wattle' and another one all about gaps and presence. They’re complete pieces in their own right but they acted here as creative stepping stones. They guided me to this share.

I wrote and made Sound Boundary (Let me Heal) in late '22, a few months before I returned to Melbourne. Largely spoken word, it follows a character who’s drawing a line with an adversary. Sometimes I think that adversary is another person. Sometimes it’s the modern world, with all of its noise and distraction and rush. And sometimes that adversary is a system of thought that’s at once external to the self and part of it. Occasionally, the adversary seems to be all these things wrapped into one amorphous whole.

In this tiny snippet of the end of the piece, you can hear GarageBand samples and my own voice. It's a very short and simple taster but that's fitting because, regardless of how good I think the piece is, it's about creating boundaries and I've no inclination to share more. I draw a line and it feels good.

I love sharing bits of my writing and performance practice. If you’re intrigued to hear what’s behind Sound Boundary (Let me Heal), or any of my other work, let me know. I welcome the energy.

This piece is no longer available for listening.
